About Us

Listening is an art that requires attention over talent, spirit over ego, others over self.—Dean Jackson

Meet the doc: Dr. Ruchira Mehra

I grew up in southeast Michigan and attended the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, where I obtained a Bachelor’s of Science in Engineering (pre-bioengineering) and a Master of Public Health in Hospital and Molecular Epidemiology.   When I made my decision to become a doctor, I knew that I wanted to become a family physician.  My love of travel and traditional family medicine led me to pursue medical school in Ireland.

I attended the National University of Ireland-University College Cork for my medical degree. It was such an amazing experience that included Irish culture and making house calls!  Alas, after graduation, I returned home to my family and the sweetheart I left behind.  I completed my family medicine residency at St. John Hospital and Medical Center in Detroit. During that time, I also got married (said sweetheart).  My husband (an avid Great Lakes surfer) introduced me to Grand Haven back in the early 1990s.  When it was time to decide where we wanted to start a family, it was a no brainer.  We loved the idea of being part of a small town community that had so much to offer.

As a family physician, it has always been my goal to provide time for my patients and to focus on their concerns while being able to provide health education for a healthier lifestyle. Working as a board-certified family physician since 2008, I have seen the need for more personalized care in medicine. Health care should encompass: more time with patients, easier access to a physician, and more price transparency. The Direct Primary Care model can deliver healthcare that will restore the doctor-patient relationship and provide better healthcare to the community through better access and continuity of care.
